Adjustable shunt reference — ±0.5% tolerance in a TO-92-3
The Texas Instruments TLV431BCLPRE3 is a low-voltage, three-terminal adjustable shunt regulator with a ±0.5% reference tolerance — tighter than the ±1.5% typical of the standard TL431 family.
15 mA output and 100 µA cathode current — biasing the shunt
The device sinks up to 15 mA continuous cathode current — the maximum shunt current through the reference. Stay above 100 µA to keep the reference in its specified accuracy band, and size the bias resistor to handle the supply voltage minus the reference voltage at the target shunt current.
Not rated for automotive under-hood, outdoor telecom cabinets, or industrial floor environments where the ambient regularly exceeds 70°C.
For new designs, consider the active TLV431A series in SOT-23 or SOT-89 packages as a functional replacement; verify pin compatibility and tolerance grade for your BOM position.
