Multi-topology PWM controller for isolated and non-isolated supplies
The TL494CNS is a fixed-frequency PWM controller that handles step-up, step-down, and step-up/step-down topologies including buck, boost, flyback, forward converter, half-bridge, and push-pull configurations.
At 45% max duty cycle per output, the TL494CNS cannot exceed a 45% on-time in a single-ended topology. In push-pull or half-bridge, the two outputs interleave to achieve effective 90% duty cycle at the transformer primary. The 1 kHz to 300 kHz range lets you run at lower frequencies for through-hole magnetics or push higher for smaller planar transformers. The RT/CT timing components set the oscillator; no external clock sync is available. Dead-time control (pin 4) allows fine adjustment of the off-time between output pulses, critical for avoiding shoot-through in half-bridge and push-pull stages.
