Product details

Multi-topology PWM controller in a socketable PDIP-16

The TL494CNG4 is a fixed-frequency PWM controller that handles step-up, step-down, and step-up/step-down topologies, covering buck, boost, flyback, forward converter, full-bridge, half-bridge, and push-pull configurations. With a wide supply range of 7V to 40V and switching frequency from 1kHz to 300kHz, it fits industrial power supplies, battery chargers, and motor drives. The 16-pin PDIP package means you can socket it on a through-hole board — no hot-air station needed for a field swap.

Two outputs, 45% duty cycle, dead-time control

Two transistor-driver outputs with a maximum duty cycle of 45% per output, plus dead-time control and frequency control pins let you set the switching behaviour for push-pull or half-bridge designs. Output configuration is positive, and there is no synchronous rectifier built in — you add external Schottky or FETs for the low-side. The 45% ceiling per channel is a hard limit for push-pull stages; plan the transformer turns ratio accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between TL494CNG4 and TL494CN?

Both are the same base PWM controller. The TL494CNG4 is the lead-free / RoHS-compliant variant of the TL494CN. Pin-compatible, same electrical specs — the G4 suffix indicates green (RoHS) plating.
