Adjustable shunt reference — what the ±0.5% tolerance buys you
The TL431BCLPM is an adjustable shunt voltage reference from onsemi, part of the industry-standard TL431 family. Its ±0.5% tolerance (B grade) gives tighter output accuracy than the standard ±1% or ±2% grades — useful for precision power-supply feedback loops, reference rails for ADCs, or comparator thresholds where the reference error directly eats into the system budget.
Commercial temperature grade — indoor and office duty only
Typical applications are bench supplies, appliance control boards, and office equipment where the ambient stays within the commercial envelope.
TO-92-3 through-hole — legacy footprint, still serviceable
This is a standard three-lead transistor outline — the same footprint used by the 2N3904 and countless other TO-92 devices. The through-hole form factor is less common in new high-density SMT designs but remains practical for through-hole prototype boards, point-of-load regulators, and repair replacements where the PCB already has a TO-92 hole pattern.
Sourcing is through independent distribution — surplus stock, new-old-stock, or broker inventory.
