Full-duplex RS485 at 25 Mbps — what the data rate buys you
The Texas Instruments SN65HVD379DG4 is a full-duplex RS422/RS485 transceiver in an 8-SOIC package, rated for 25 Mbps signaling. At that rate on a properly terminated 120 Ω twisted pair, the usable cable length drops to roughly 50 meters or less — the classic speed-versus-distance trade-off. If your bus runs shorter runs at lower baud, the part still works fine; the 50 mV receiver hysteresis cleans up noise on slow edges without external filtering.
3.3 V supply only — not a 5 V tolerant bus part
The bus pins are not 5 V tolerant; feeding a 5 V logic signal into the driver input or pulling the bus above the absolute maximum will damage the transceiver. If your system runs mixed 3.3 V / 5 V logic, add a level translator or pick a 5 V-capable RS485 part like the SN65HVD3082E.
