Half-duplex RS-485 transceiver for 5V industrial buses
5V-only supply — not a 3.3V bus part
The supply range is 4.5V to 5.5V, so this transceiver runs from a 5V rail only. If your design uses a 3.3V supply for the UART side, you will need level translation or a different transceiver rated for the lower voltage. The half-duplex architecture means the driver and receiver share the same bus pins, with the driver enable controlling direction — typical for two-wire RS-485 networks where the host toggles DE between transmit and receive.
TI lists the SN65HVD3085ED with a Last Buy lifecycle status. That means the manufacturer has announced end-of-life and is accepting final orders for a limited window. Once that window closes, the only channel will be independent distribution handling new-old-stock and surplus. For a production BOM that depends on this transceiver, the prudent move is to qualify a replacement or secure a lifetime buy quantity now.
