What this transceiver does on the bus
It's the kind of part you find on the serial bus of a motor drive, a PLC I/O card, or an outdoor sensor node where the cable runs between cabinets and the environment is anything but clean. The 115 kbps data rate is deliberate: this is a robust, noise-immune bus part for long cable runs and high common-mode voltages, not a high-speed link. The 50 mV receiver hysteresis cleans up a noisy bus, so the receiver doesn't chatter when the line idles or sees slow edges.
Supply range and bus compatibility
That means you can run it on a 3.3 V rail and still get the full RS-485 differential output swing, which is the common gotcha with 3.3 V transceivers — some don't meet the 1.5 V minimum differential output at the far end of a loaded bus. This one does.
