RS-485 bus transceiver for 3.3V industrial links
20 Mbps full-duplex — what the data rate buys you
Full-duplex operation at 20 Mbps allows simultaneous TX and RX over separate twisted pairs, eliminating bus-cycle waste from driver-enable toggling.
3.3V-only supply — plan the rail accordingly
It will not tolerate a 5V bus-side pull-up or a 5V VCC — if your backplane runs 5V, look at the 5V-rated siblings in the SN65HVD14xx family. Within a 3.3V system the 70 mV hysteresis gives enough margin to reject common-mode noise from long cable runs without external filtering.
The tube shipment is fine for prototype and low-volume builds; production reels are the usual alternative. MSL level is standard for this package class — treat the floor-life window per the label.
For new designs this is a low-risk choice — no last-time-buy scramble ahead.
