RS-485 bus interface for industrial and automotive environments
At 400 kbps the part handles typical fieldbus baud rates (Modbus RTU at 115.2 kbps, Profibus DP at 12 Mbps is out of range) with margin, but it is not a high-speed contender. For a 500-meter cable run at 400 kbps, signal rise time and stub length still need careful termination; the 70 mV hysteresis helps keep noise from false-starting a bit.
Full-duplex with 1/1 driver/receiver count
Full-duplex operation means separate twisted pairs for transmit and receive, so the bus can send and receive simultaneously. The 1/1 driver/receiver ratio is standard for point-to-point or multi-drop where only one node transmits at a time on each pair. If your topology needs half-duplex (shared pair), the SN65HVD1471 still works with the driver enable toggled, but a dedicated half-duplex part like the SN65HVD1470 would save a pair.
Package and footprint: 8-VSSOP
The 8-VSSOP (also listed as 8-TSSOP / 8-MSOP with 0.118-inch width) is a compact surface-mount package. The footprint is shared across the SN65HVD147x family, so swapping between full- and half-duplex variants within the series requires no board layout change — only the firmware and connector wiring differ.
