Product details

What this RS-485 transceiver does on the bus

The 70 mV of receiver hysteresis gives it clean noise rejection on long or heavily loaded bus segments — useful in building automation, elevator controllers, and industrial fieldbus nodes where the cable runs can exceed a hundred metres.

The logic inputs are 3.3V-tolerant, so it interfaces directly with a 3.3V UART on an MCU without level shifting. If your system uses a 5V bus controller, you will need external translation or a different transceiver variant.

Full-duplex wiring and the 14-SOIC footprint

Full-duplex operation requires two twisted pairs — one for transmit, one for receive — plus a common ground.

Frequently asked questions

Can SN65HVD1470D be used for RS485?

Yes. The SN65HVD1470D is specified for both RS-422 and RS-485 protocols, full-duplex, at 400 kbps.

What is the difference between SN65HVD1470D and SN65HVD1470?

The SN65HVD1470D is the full-duplex variant in a 14-SOIC package. The base number SN65HVD1470 without the 'D' suffix typically refers to the same die in a different package or shipping medium — the 'D' suffix specifically indicates the 14-SOIC (3.90 mm width) package. The electrical specifications (full duplex, 400 kbps, 3V–3.6V supply, 70 mV hysteresis) are identical.
