Temperature rating — the main event
This is not a typical 85°C or even 105°C part — 175°C junction temperature capability means it can live in an engine bay, downhole tool, or avionics bay where ambient heat soaks the PCB. The packaging (8-SOIC) is standard, but the die and assembly are rated for that extended range.
The part is not 5V-tolerant on the supply, so if the rest of the system runs at 5V, a level translator is required on the digital I/O lines. The driver and receiver pins are referenced to VCC, so logic input thresholds scale with the supply.
Half-duplex bus topology
As a half-duplex device, the SN65HVD11HD uses a single pair of differential bus lines for both transmit and receive. The driver enable pin (DE) controls which direction the bus is driven. For full-duplex operation requiring simultaneous send and receive, a second part or a different transceiver would be needed.
