Dual-channel op-amp in 8-SOIC — speed and drive
The OPA2822U from Texas Instruments is a dual general-purpose operational amplifier in a standard 8-SOIC package. It delivers a 400 MHz -3dB bandwidth with a 170V/µs slew rate, making it suited for high-speed signal conditioning, video buffers, or ADC driver stages where settling time matters. Each of the two channels draws 9.6 mA supply current and can source or sink up to 150 mA per channel — enough to drive a 50-ohm back-terminated line or a moderate capacitive load without an external buffer.
Package and rework reality — 8-SOIC
The 8-SOIC (0.154", 3.90 mm width) is a gull-wing leaded package with a 1.27 mm pitch — easy to hand-solder or rework under hot air without lifting pads. Pin 1 is clearly marked by a chamfer on the package body, so orientation is straightforward under a loupe. It ships in a Tube, not tape-and-reel, so expect individual handling for bench prototypes or small-batch rework. The SOIC-8 footprint is a standard JEDEC outline; the same pad layout serves many dual op-amps, simplifying board swaps.
DC precision and input characteristics
Input offset voltage is 200 µV typical, and input bias current is 9 µA — this is a bipolar input stage, so the bias current is orders of magnitude higher than a JFET or CMOS op-amp. For high-impedance sources, the bias current drop across the source resistance will add to the offset error. The gain-bandwidth product is 240 MHz, which combined with the 170V/µs slew rate gives a large-signal bandwidth that keeps distortion low in the passband. The -3dB bandwidth of 400 MHz is the small-signal figure; expect the full-power bandwidth to be lower, limited by the slew rate into the load.
Supply range and temperature grade
Operates from a 4 V to 12.6 V total supply span — single-supply from 4 V to 12.6 V, or split supplies like ±2 V to ±6.3 V. The -40°C to 85°C temperature range covers industrial environments but not extended automotive or military. Texas Instruments lists the OPA2822U as Active and ROHS3 compliant.
