Fixed 1.8V rail with 250mA headroom
The LP2992IM5X-1.8 is a single-output positive LDO regulator delivering a fixed 1.8V output at up to 250mA continuous. The 16V maximum input covers 12V and 5V intermediate rails with derating margin, and the 0.85V dropout at full load means the input must stay above 2.65V to maintain regulation. Quiescent current sits at 95 µA typical, rising to 4 mA max under supply — the idle draw is low enough for battery-backed rails that stay alive during system sleep. The enable pin lets a supervisor or GPIO sequence the rail on and off without an external load switch.
PSRR is 45 dB at 1 kHz — this attenuates switching ripple from a buck converter by a factor of ~178. For a 50 mVpp ripple at 1 kHz on the input, the output sees roughly 0.28 mVpp, which keeps noise-sensitive analog or RF loads within their supply rejection budget. These are self-recovering — the part cycles back on once the fault clears — so a momentary output short during board assembly or a stalled downstream load won't latch the rail off permanently. At the hot end, dropout voltage and quiescent current both increase; the 125°C junction limit is the hard ceiling, not a derating target.
SOT-23-5 footprint and reflow profile
Packaged in a 5-pin SOT-23 (SC-74A), the LP2992IM5X-1.8 uses a standard 0.95 mm pitch leadframe with no exposed pad. The footprint matches the JEDEC MO-178 variation, and the part reflows on a standard Pb-free profile with a 260°C peak — no special bake or dry-pack handling needed for MSL-1 rated devices. For a pick-and-place line, this requires a tube feeder or a manual changeover — factor the handling into the assembly plan if the rest of the BOM runs on reel.
The part is marked RoHS non-compliant. For EU or RoHS-restricted markets, verify the exemption or plan for a drop-in compliant variant.
