Dropout and PSRR — the real numbers
Maximum dropout voltage is 0.22 V at the full 50 mA load, so a 5 V rail feeding this regulator only needs about 4.92 V to hold 4.7 V regulation — tight headroom designs can breathe. PSRR is 63 dB at 1 kHz, which knocks down switching-regulator ripple by a factor of roughly 1400.
This part is officially marked Obsolete. For a repair or a legacy BOM line, the only path is independent distribution, sourced per RFQ. There is no pin-compatible direct replacement from TI with the same fixed 4.7 V output in this package; the LP2980 family has other fixed voltages (3.3 V, 5.0 V) that share the same pinout, but a 4.7 V rail is uncommon enough that a board spin or a different regulator family is the realistic move for new production.
