High-side current monitor for industrial and automotive rails
The Texas Instruments INA202AID is a high-side current monitor that senses current by measuring the voltage drop across a shunt resistor placed between the supply rail and the load. Its input common-mode range of -16V to 80V covers 12V, 24V, and 48V systems, including reverse-battery conditions and transient overvoltage events common in industrial motor drives and automotive body controllers. The ±3.5% accuracy is adequate for overcurrent protection thresholds and load monitoring, though not for precision metering applications. The 8-SOIC package keeps the board footprint small and the layout straightforward — shunt and sense lines route directly to the inputs with minimal loop area.
Temperature grade and environment
Rated for -40°C to 125°C, the INA202AID suits outdoor telecom cabinets, engine-bay electronics, and factory-floor automation where ambient temperatures push beyond commercial limits. The high-side sensing method avoids ground-loop issues that plague low-side designs, making it a natural fit for systems where the load shares a chassis ground.
Sourcing and lifecycle
It is ROHS3 compliant.
