Dual H-Bridge Driver for Two DC Motors or a Bipolar Stepper
The Texas Instruments DRV8833CPWP is a fully integrated dual H-bridge motor driver with PWM control, built around Power MOSFET technology. It drives either two brushed DC motors or one bipolar stepper motor, with each half-bridge rated for 700 mA continuous output current. The supply and load voltage share the same 2.7 V to 10.8 V range, so the motor supply rail also powers the internal logic — no separate regulator needed for the driver core.

That range covers common 3.3 V, 5 V, and 9 V system rails, but the 10.8 V ceiling means a nominal 12 V bus is out of spec — a common first-fit check for industrial or automotive designs.
Four Half-Bridges, 700 mA Each — What It Drives
Four half-bridge outputs configured as two independent H-bridges. Each bridge can drive a brushed DC motor forward/reverse/brake/coast, or both bridges combine to drive a bipolar stepper with full-step, half-step, or microstep sequences via the PWM inputs. The 700 mA per-bridge rating is continuous; peak current can be higher for short intervals during start-up or stall conditions, but the thermal limit in the 16-PowerTSSOP package (with exposed pad) sets the steady-state boundary.

The PCB layout must include a copper land and vias to the ground plane — without it the junction temperature rises above the 150°C limit at full load in a 25°C ambient.
