The DRV8144ASQRYJRQ1: The SPI interface handles current regulation setpoint, fault reporting (overcurrent, overtemperature, open-load), and diagnostic readback — no separate ADC or comparator needed for current monitoring. A 12 V battery dipped to 4.5 V during cold crank still keeps the driver operational; a 35 V load-dump transient stays inside the abs-max envelope without an external clamp.
The 3 mm × 6 mm footprint fits a standard QFN land pattern; the wettable flank allows automated optical inspection (AOI) of the solder fillet after reflow, which is a requirement for many automotive Tier-1 assembly lines. Surface-mount, wettable flank. The tape-and-reel packaging (TR) is the standard delivery for high-volume pick-and-place; cut tape (CT) is available for prototyping or low-volume builds.
Texas Instruments lists no official pin-compatible second source or successor for this order code. The DRV8144 family shares the same footprint and SPI register map across current ratings; if the BOM requires a different current tier, a sibling variant with the same package and interface is the drop-in path.
