What the 1500W rating means on the bench
The 1.5SMC16CA M6G: For a 22.5V clamping voltage, that works out to about 70A peak pulse current — enough to handle a typical industrial surge from a nearby lightning strike or inductive load dump on a 12V rail. The reverse standoff voltage is 13.6V, so this part sits on a 12V bus without conducting in normal operation. Breakdown starts at 15.2V minimum, giving a narrow window before the clamp engages at 22.5V. That means downstream circuitry rated for 24V or higher stays safe.
Sourcing and lifecycle check
That means it's still being manufactured and can be ordered for both new builds and replacement stock. The bidirectional channel means one device covers both polarities, saving a component and a board revision compared to using two unidirectional TVS diodes back-to-back.
Board-fit and handling
DO-214AB (SMC) is a standard footprint — same as many other 1500W TVS diodes from different manufacturers, so it's a drop-in swap if you're replacing a competitor's part. The body is large enough to hand-solder with a fine-tip iron if you're doing a field repair, though reflow is preferred for production. No power line protection rating means it's intended for signal or low-voltage DC bus protection, not AC mains. Keep it on the secondary side of the supply.
