Automotive-grade TVS for 28 V rails
The 1.5KE33CAH: For a 24 V system with a 40 V abs-max input rating, this clamp leaves a 4.3 V guard band before the downstream regulator lets out the magic smoke.
Package and board fit
Through-hole DO-201AA (DO-27) axial package — the leads are 0.96 mm diameter, spaced 8.9 mm apart. It fits standard 0.100-inch pitch holes and can be hand-soldered or wave-soldered. No special ESD handling beyond the usual wrist strap; the axial body is easy to orient with the cathode band (though bidirectional means polarity doesn't matter for the clamping direction). Supplied in tape-and-reel for automated insertion, but the through-hole form factor also makes it a field-swap candidate — a technician can pull the old one and solder in a replacement with a standard iron in under a minute.
Verify the breakdown and clamping voltage match your surge requirement before substituting.
