Through-hole DO-201: rework-friendly and thermally robust
The DO-201AA (DO-27) axial package is a through-hole part — the leads take the thermal stress during a surge event better than a surface-mount equivalent, and the body is large enough to dissipate the 1500W pulse without board-level heat sinking. For the rework bench, the axial leads are easy to extract and replace with a standard soldering iron; no hot-air profile needed. Pin 1 is the cathode band — the band is molded into the body, so orientation is unambiguous even after the part is removed from the tape.
