What the 1500 W rating means for the board
The 1.5KE16CH: For a 12 V nominal rail, the reverse standoff of 12.9 V means it stays off the bus during normal operation and only clamps when a transient pushes above that threshold. The clamping voltage at peak current is 23.5 V max, so downstream components rated for 30 V or higher have margin.
Automotive qualification and temperature envelope
The operating junction temperature range spans -55°C to 175°C, covering under-hood and engine-bay ambient conditions where the TVS must survive both cold cranking and hot soak.
Package and board integration
Housed in a DO-201AA (DO-27) axial-lead package, the 1.5KE16CH is a through-hole part. The DO-201 footprint is standard — the anode and cathode bands are marked on the body; for bidirectional parts the marking is symmetric. The axial leads handle the pulse current without trace lift-off, but the board-side copper pad area under the body should be kept clear of large planes to avoid thermal coupling that could shift the clamping threshold during repetitive surges.
