Clamping voltage and peak current — what the ratings mean for the BOM
The 1.5KE16CAHA0G: A 24V-rated ECU input with a 36V abs-max rating has margin above the clamp point; a 12V rail running a 5V regulator, however, needs a secondary clamp or a lower-voltage TVS ahead of it. Breakdown occurs at a minimum of 15.2V, ensuring the device starts conducting before the transient voltage reaches the downstream component's absolute maximum. No power line protection feature — this is a pure transient suppressor, not a filter or overcurrent device.
Package, mounting, and production status
Supplied in the DO-201AA (DO-27) axial leaded package, through-hole mounted. The DO-201 body handles the 1500W pulse without cracking the epoxy encapsulation, provided the leads are clipped to the recommended PCB hole pattern and the device is not bent within 2 mm of the body.
