Active production — dual-channel isolation in a compact SOIC-8
The onsemi FOD8802CR2 is an active-production dual-channel transistor-output optocoupler from the OptoHit™ series, offering 2500Vrms galvanic isolation in a standard 8-SOIC surface-mount package. With a current transfer ratio (CTR) guaranteed between 200% and 400% at a forward current of 1mA, this part reliably drives logic-level inputs with minimal LED drive current — useful in power-constrained designs where the microcontroller's GPIO can directly bias the input. The dual-channel configuration in a single SOIC-8 footprint saves board space compared to using two single-channel optocouplers, while the 75V output rating and 30mA per-channel output current handle typical PLC digital inputs, relay coils, and isolated signal interfaces.
Temperature range and switching performance
Typical rise and fall times of 6µs and 7µs respectively, along with matched turn-on/turn-off times of 6µs, suit low-speed isolation applications such as 24V PLC digital input modules, isolated I²C or SPI buses, and relay or solenoid drivers where switching frequencies stay below a few kilohertz. The 400mV maximum Vce saturation at the output ensures low voltage drop when the phototransistor is fully on, keeping the logic-level output clean even with long PCB traces.
Package and compliance for automated assembly
Supplied in tape-and-reel (TR) or cut-tape (CT) formats, the SOIC-8 package (3.90mm width) is compatible with standard pick-and-place equipment for medium-to-high volume production. ROHS3 compliant per onsemi's current lifecycle status, the part meets EU and global environmental requirements for new designs.
