Dual-channel transistor output in a narrow SOIC-8
The FOD8802B: It provides 2500Vrms galvanic isolation between a DC input LED and a transistor output, making it a straightforward fit for isolating logic-level signals across a safety barrier or breaking ground loops in mixed-voltage systems. That CTR band means the output transistor saturates reliably with modest LED drive — useful when the microcontroller's GPIO can only source a few milliamps.
Parametric fit for signal isolation
The output side is rated for up to 75 V across the collector-emitter and 30 mA continuous output current per channel. Switching is specified with typical turn-on and turn-off times of 6 µs each, and rise/fall times of 6 µs and 7 µs respectively. That places the useful data rate around 50-100 kbps — fine for isolated serial buses (UART, SPI at reduced speed) or digital I/O status feedback, but not for high-speed CAN or Ethernet. Forward voltage is 1.35 V typical at 20 mA max forward current. The LED side is DC-coupled, so a series resistor sets the drive current; no AC coupling needed.
Lifecycle and compliance
The dual-channel configuration in the narrow SOIC-8 footprint saves board space compared to two single-channel optocouplers. The tube packaging is standard for pick-and-place; reel options may be available through onsemi's distribution channel.
