10 Mbps open-collector optoisolator with 5 kVrms isolation
The FOD8163T is a single-channel optoisolator from onsemi that switches at 10 Mbps with an open-collector Schottky-clamped output. That data rate covers Profibus, DeviceNet, and many industrial backplane buses without stretching the bit period. The 5 kVrms isolation rating meets reinforced insulation requirements per IEC 60950-1, so this part can sit on the safety barrier in a motor drive or a medical patient interface without additional optocouplers.
Fast edges and high transient immunity for noisy environments
Typical rise and fall times are 20 ns and 10 ns, and maximum propagation delays are 90 ns low-to-high and 80 ns high-to-low. These edges are clean enough that you don't need a Schmitt-trigger buffer on the output in most 3.3 V or 5 V logic systems. The 20 kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity means the output won't glitch when a 600 V IGBT switches next to the opto — a real concern in inverter stages where the ground plane bounces at tens of kV/µs.
Active production, ROHS3 compliant, 6-SOIC package
It is ROHS3 compliant, so no exemption expiry risk for EU-shipped products. The part comes in a tube and is housed in a 6-SOIC package with 0.268" body width. The surface-mount footprint is the same as a standard SO-6 wide-body, so layout reuse from other 6-pin optoisolators is straightforward.
Supply range and temperature grade for industrial logic rails
The output side runs from 3 V to 5.5 V, covering 3.3 V and 5 V logic families directly — no level shifter needed. The input LED forward voltage is 1.45 V typical with a maximum forward current of 25 mA, so a 3.3 V CMOS output with a 100 Ω series resistor drives it comfortably. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 100°C, which covers industrial enclosures and outdoor telecom cabinets without a derating curve.
