The Omron TL-W3MC1 is an unshielded inductive proximity sensor in a plastic barrel with a 3 mm sensing distance. It detects ferrous metal targets without contact, outputting an NPN-NO signal on three wires. The IP67 seal makes it suitable for washdown zones, outdoor cabinets, or dusty factory floors — the plastic body won't rust, but it's not rated for chemical spray.
3 mm sensing window — what that means for the mount
At 3 mm, the TL-W3MC1 is a short-range sensor. The target must pass within that gap reliably; vibration or misalignment eats into the margin. Because it's unshielded, the sensing field extends beyond the plastic face — if you flush-mount it in a metal bracket, the metal will detune the range. Leave a non-ferrous zone around the active face, or expect the effective distance to drop below 3 mm.
NPN-NO, cable leads, LED indicator
Three-wire NPN-NO: brown to +10 V, blue to ground, black is the switched output that sinks to ground when a target is present. The LED on the body gives a local visual on the switching state — useful during commissioning without a handheld tool. Cable leads are pre-wired; no connector option, so plan for a junction box or a splice if the cable length doesn't reach your terminal block.
