Slot sensor for discrete position feedback
The Omron EE-SX872P is a through-beam optical sensor with a 5 mm sensing slot, intended for flag or vane detection in position-sensing applications like end-of-travel limits, part-present detection, or timing marks on rotating machinery. Its PNP open-collector output is configured Light-ON, meaning the output transistor turns on when the beam is uninterrupted — the default state for most PLC sinking inputs. The 5 V supply and 30 mA switching current keep the load side simple; no separate amplifier module is needed.
Mounting and environment
Chassis mount via M3 screws through the sensor body. The -25°C to 55°C operating range covers indoor machine enclosures and conditioned factory floors but not freezers, ovens, or outdoor cabinets. The 5 mm slot width accepts a 3 mm thick flag with clearance; verify your vane thickness and insertion depth against the slot geometry before committing the bracket.
