The MC33887APVW is a fully integrated brushed DC motor driver from NXP, delivering 5A continuous output from a 5V to 28V supply rail. The half-bridge output pair configures into an H-bridge with an external second device for bidirectional motor control, or runs as a standalone high-side/low-side switch for unidirectional loads like pumps or fans. The parallel interface connects directly to MCU GPIO pins without a serial protocol — the four logic inputs (IN1, IN2, IN3, IN4) set the bridge state, and the fault flag output reports overcurrent, overtemperature, or undervoltage conditions back to the controller. No SPI or I²C overhead means the driver responds within a single GPIO toggle cycle, useful for real-time current control loops.
20-HSOP package and thermal management
Housed in a 20-lead HSOP with an exposed pad (11.00 mm width), the MC33887APVW relies on the PCB copper plane under the pad for heat sinking. The Power MOSFET output stage keeps conduction losses low at full load — the Rds(on) is typically in the 200 mOhm range per FET at 25°C, rising with junction temperature. The exposed-pad package is the primary thermal path; a board layout that omits the pad solder connection will thermally throttle the driver well below the 5A rating.
Active lifecycle and compliance
The 20-HSOP package is supplied in tube format per the standard NXP packing option. For volume requirements, confirm the preferred packing (tube vs tape-and-reel) at quote time — the reel option may carry a different order code suffix.
