Dual 1.5A USB port power switch — what the ratings mean on the bench
The MIC2547-2BTSTR is a dual-channel high-side N-channel MOSFET switch designed for USB power distribution. Each output delivers up to 1.5A continuous from a 2.7V to 5.5V load supply — covering both 5V USB ports and 3.3V peripheral rails. Typical on-resistance is 80 mOhm per channel. At 1.5A that's about 180 mW of dissipation per channel — the 16-TSSOP copper pad on the PCB carries that heat, so the board layout matters more than the package itself for staying under the 85°C ambient ceiling.
Protection set — adjustable current limit, over-temp, reverse current
Fault protection includes adjustable current limiting (set via an external resistor), over-temperature shutdown, and reverse-current blocking. The reverse-current block is the one that catches people — if the USB port voltage rises above the input rail (say a powered hub back-feeds), the switch opens instead of back-driving the bus. The On/Off control input is non-inverting and needs no external Vcc supply — the switch is enabled by pulling the EN pin high. A Status Flag output signals over-current or thermal fault conditions.
