Boost regulator for LED drive — 34 V output ceiling
The MIC2287C-24YMLTR is a DC-DC boost regulator from Microchip Technology, built around a step-up (boost) topology with an integrated switch.
1.2 MHz switching and PWM dimming
Switching at 1.2 MHz, the regulator keeps the inductor and output capacitor physically small — a 10 µH coil and 4.7 µF cap are typical for the output filter. The internal switch is rated for 750 mA peak current, which sets the maximum LED string current before the inductor saturates or the switch overheats. Dimming is controlled via PWM on the enable pin, allowing the LED current to be chopped at a duty cycle that the human eye integrates as brightness. The 1.2 MHz switching frequency is well above audible range, so no coil whine reaches the camera microphone during flash recharge. The single-output channel drives a series LED string; the 34 V compliance means up to 8–10 white LEDs in series (at ~3.2 V each) can be biased from a single Li-ion cell. The 750 mA switch current is the peak inductor current, not the average LED current — the actual LED current depends on the sense resistor and the boost ratio.
Package and temperature grade
Surface-mount assembly with the 2x2 mm MLF footprint — the exposed pad must be soldered to the ground plane for both thermal and electrical connection. The package is RoHS-compliant per Microchip's standard material declaration.
