What this buck controller does on your board
The MIC2199YML is a single-phase, step-down (buck) switching controller from Microchip, designed to drive an external transistor pair — including a synchronous rectifier — for non-isolated DC-DC conversion.
At 300 kHz, the inductor ripple current and output voltage ripple are moderate. A designer targeting a compact board could move to a higher-frequency controller, but the MIC2199YML keeps switching losses lower, which matters when the input voltage is at the upper end of the 32 V range. The 85% maximum duty cycle limits the step-down ratio — at 24 V in, the lowest regulated output is roughly 3.6 V before the controller skips pulses.
Synchronous rectifier: efficiency gain, external FETs needed
The MIC2199YML includes a synchronous rectifier driver, so the design uses two external N-channel MOSFETs — one for the high-side switch, one for the low-side synchronous rectifier. The trade-off is the extra FET and gate-drive layout care.
Temperature range and package — where it fits physically
The enable pin lets a supervisor or power-good signal gate the controller on and off.
It is ROHS3 compliant.
