Fixed 5V rail for always-on and battery-powered designs
The Microchip MCP1701AT-5002I/CB is a fixed 5V output positive LDO regulator in a SOT-23A-3 package, rated for 250 mA continuous output.
Dropout voltage and input headroom planning
Maximum dropout voltage is 0.6V at 200 mA output. That means the input rail must stay above 5.6V to maintain regulation at that load — a 5V rail from a 6V battery or a 9V-to-5V conversion has comfortable margin. At lighter loads the dropout drops further, but the 0.6V ceiling is the number to budget for worst-case temperature and current. Input voltage range extends to 10V maximum. The part accepts unregulated supplies from a 9V battery, a 12V bus stepped down, or a 5V rail with a diode drop — the 10V ceiling covers most low-voltage industrial and portable rails without needing a pre-regulator.
