1.5 kW peak pulse power – what it buys the design
The 1N6163A is rated for 1500 W (1.5 kW) peak pulse power under the standard 10/1000 µs waveform. That rating tells you the diode can absorb a substantial surge without failing — useful for protecting a 56 V rail in industrial or telecom power supplies where transients from inductive kicks or lightning coupling are common. It clamps at 103.1 V maximum while conducting 14.5 A peak pulse current. The margin between the 56 V standoff and the 103.1 V clamp gives the protected circuit headroom: a downstream MOSFET or DC-DC converter rated for 100 V or more should survive the event.
Bidirectional, axial, wide temp range
A single bidirectional channel means the part clamps both polarities — no need to stack two unidirectional devices for AC lines or bipolar supplies. The through-hole axial package (B, Axial) is a standard leaded form factor that hand-solders easily and fits existing board layouts with 0.100-inch pitch holes. The 175°C TJ(max) is higher than many commercial TVS diodes, which typically stop at 150°C.
