Clamping and breakdown margins
With a minimum breakdown voltage of 64.6V and a clamping ceiling of 97.1V at 15.4A peak pulse current, the 1N6162A provides a 46% headroom above the 51.7V standoff before the protected circuit sees the full clamp. This margin is typical for Zener TVS devices and ensures the diode does not conduct during normal 48V rail ripple, yet responds before downstream DC-DC converters or MOSFETs exceed their Vds rating.
