Hermetic Zener TVS for high-reliability surge clamping
The 58.9 V minimum breakdown voltage and 85.3 V maximum clamping voltage at 17.6 A define the conduction window: the device starts avalanching above the standoff voltage of 47.1 V and holds the clamp below 85.3 V until the surge energy is absorbed.
Junction temperature range and package integrity
Rated for continuous junction temperatures from -55°C to 175°C, the 1N6161AUS supports deployment in unpressurised avionics bays, engine-mounted sensor interfaces, and downhole instrumentation where ambient heat soaks the PCB. The SQ-MELF package is a hermetic ceramic barrel with metallised end caps — no plastic mould compound to absorb moisture, no popcorn risk during reflow. The C suffix indicates the standard outline per JEDEC DO-213AB.
Microchip Technology lists the 1N6161AUS as Active. The base product number 1N6161 covers a family of voltage grades in the same hermetic SQ-MELF footprint. If your design needs a different standoff voltage, the 1N6161 family shares the same package and power rating.
