Clamp voltage and pulse current

That ceiling tells the designer the protected device sees no more than 70.1V during a surge — key for 48V bus or 36V battery systems where downstream ICs have a 75V absolute max. The 48.5V minimum breakdown voltage ensures the diode does not conduct during normal rail ripple up to 38.8V, leaving margin for transients without nuisance triggering.
