Transient suppressor for 38.8 V rails
Its 1500 W peak pulse power rating handles surges up to 21.4 A before the clamp voltage reaches 70.1 V.
Clamp voltage and breakdown margin
Minimum breakdown voltage is 48.5 V, giving a guard band above the 38.8 V standoff. The 70.1 V maximum clamp at 21.4 A peak pulse current defines the voltage the protected circuit must survive. This is a bidirectional device — one channel clamps both polarities, simplifying board layout for AC-coupled or floating lines.
Microchip lists the 1N6159A as Active. The part is in the B, Axial through-hole case.
