What this TVS diode does on your board
With a peak pulse power rating of 1500W (1.5kW) under the 10/1000µs waveform, it handles substantial surge energy before the silicon gives up. The 59.1V clamping voltage is the ceiling the rail sees during a strike — downstream components need to survive that peak. Single bidirectional channel means one device protects both polarities, saving a diode pair and board space. The axial through-hole package is a workhorse for high-reliability and retrofit work — easy to hand-replace on a repair bench.
For a 32.7V standoff rail, the 25.4A peak pulse current gives you the surge capacity: if your transient source impedance is low enough to push more current, the diode clamps at 59.1V and the excess energy goes into the junction. At the hot end, leakage current rises, but the clamping voltage stays within spec.
