Zener TVS in a SQ-MELF – 500 W surge clamp for harsh environments
It clamps at 41.6 V max while conducting 12 A peak pulse current, and the single bidirectional channel handles symmetrical surge events on signal or power lines.
Breakdown voltage and clamping margin for a 24 V rail
Minimum breakdown voltage is 28.5 V, giving a 5.7 V guard band above the 22.8 V standoff — enough to ride through normal rail ripple without conducting leakage. The 41.6 V clamp sets the maximum voltage the downstream circuitry sees during a surge; design the 24 V bus with this ceiling in mind for the input capacitor and regulator ratings.
Mounting and thermal management for the SQ-MELF
Surface-mount on SQ-MELF B footprint; the metalized end caps require a solder profile consistent with the package's mass and the board's copper pour for heat sinking during surge events. No power line protection feature — this part is designed for signal or low-power rail clamping, not for AC mains or high-energy transients.
