What this Zener TVS does for your rail
It clamps transients on a 24 V nominal rail — think industrial sensor supplies, PLC I/O power, or automotive auxiliary buses — without crowbarring the line during normal operation.
Breakdown, clamping, and the protection window
Minimum breakdown voltage is 28.5 V, giving a 5.7 V margin above the 22.8 V standoff. That margin means the diode stays off during steady-state 24 V operation and only conducts when a transient pushes the rail above 28.5 V. The clamping ceiling of 41.6 V is the voltage the protected circuit sees at full rated current — a key number for selecting downstream components with adequate voltage rating.
Temperature range and where it fits
It will survive under-hood automotive, engine-bay electronics, or outdoor telecom cabinets where the ambient can push 85°C and the self-heating adds another 50°C. The axial through-hole package (B, Axial) is a straightforward hand-solder or wave-solder fit — no reflow profile to tune, no pad design to second-guess.
Active production — no end-of-life clock ticking
Microchip lists the 1N6117A as Active.
