What the 5KP120CA-TP protects — and how hard it clamps
The 5KP120CA-TP is a unidirectional Zener-based transient voltage suppressor rated 5000W at a 10/1000 µs peak pulse waveform — meaning it survives a 5 kW surge event without clamping below 193 V, protecting downstream circuits on a 120 V rail from voltage transients that would otherwise punch through downstream semiconductors. With a minimum breakdown of 133 V and a typical standoff of 120 V, the part sits well below the clamping ceiling during normal operation, so it stays inert on a 120 V nominal bus and activates only when a surge raises the line above breakdown. Operating temperature is rated -55°C to 175°C junction — this is the wide industrial/automotive band, not the commercial 0-70 °C grade. A junction rating this wide matters in outdoor enclosures or equipment that sees high self-heating from adjacent components.
Package and mounting — through-hole R-6 axial
For a 5 kW peak-pulse device the lead integrity and solder joint quality matter; verify the hole size and land pattern match the datasheet to avoid mechanical flex at the lead junction. Tape & Reel is the standard reel quantity for production programming.
Sourcing — active production, quoted to order
