100 F energy buffer for hold-up and backup
The KYOCERA AVX SCCV60B107SRB is a 100 F supercapacitor from the SCC series, rated at 2.7 V with a maximum ESR of 15 mOhm at 1 kHz. This combination of capacitance and low series resistance makes it suited for short-duration power backup, peak-power buffering, and energy-harvesting storage where a battery would be oversized or have limited cycle life. The through-hole radial can package (0.709" diameter, 2.441" seated height) with 0.315" lead spacing fits standard PCB layouts for supercapacitor cells, and the -10%, +30% tolerance accounts for the wide capacitance spread typical of high-Farad double-layer devices.
ESR and temperature: the real limits on discharge current
The 15 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz sets the maximum instantaneous discharge current: at 2.7 V, the short-circuit current is 180 A, but the practical continuous current is limited by self-heating. The rated lifetime of 1000 hours at 60°C means the capacitor loses capacitance and increases ESR over time — derating for ambient temperature is necessary; at 40°C the expected life roughly doubles per 10°C drop. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 65°C — the lower bound is common for outdoor or cold-storage equipment, but capacitance drops significantly below -20°C.
Active production and sourcing posture
For design-in, the Bulk package (tray or tube) is the standard procurement unit.
