What the 108 MHz Quad-SPI means for the bus
The Cypress S25FL127SABMFI000 is a 128 Mbit FL-S series NOR Flash memory with a 108 MHz clock frequency and a Quad I/O SPI interface. At 108 MHz in Quad mode the read throughput can reach roughly 54 MB/s, which is enough to feed a Cortex-M7 or a mid-range FPGA configuration controller without stalling the instruction bus.
128 Mbit density and memory organisation
Organised as 16 M x 8 bits, the 128 Mbit density suits firmware images in the 8–32 MB range plus a config or logging partition. The NOR architecture allows byte-addressable random reads and fast execute-in-place (XIP) from the SPI bus, so the host MCU can boot directly from this Flash without copying code to RAM first.
Supplied in a 16-SOIC package with a 7.50 mm body width (0.295" pitch) and surface-mount termination. S25FL127SABMFV100) for automated pick-and-place lines. The 16-SOIC footprint is common across the FL-S family, so a board layout for the S25FL127SABMFI000 can also accept the industrial-temperature S25FL127SABMFV100 or the tube-packed S25FL127SABMFV101 without a PCB change.
