700 V N-channel in an isolated TO-220 — field-swappable high-voltage switch
The TO-220 Full Pack (PG-TO220-FP) package is fully isolated — no mica washer or insulating pad between the tab and the heatsink. That saves assembly time and cuts a line item from the BOM. On a field repair, you can swap it with a screwdriver and a socket set; no lab bench needed.
Gate charge and capacitance — light load on the driver
Total gate charge is 6.8 nC at 400 V drain-source, with input capacitance (Ciss) of 211 pF at the same bias. That is a light load on the gate driver — a 100 mA driver charges the gate in under 70 ns, so the switching losses stay low even in hard-switched topologies at 65–100 kHz. The ±16 V maximum gate rating gives margin for ringing on long PCB traces.
20.5 W dissipation ceiling — heatsink planning
Maximum power dissipation is 20.5 W at case temperature. The full-pack construction adds thermal resistance compared to a standard TO-220 — the plastic encapsulant between die and heatsink surface means the junction-to-case Rth is higher. For a 10 W conduction loss at 6 A and 900 mOhm (I²R), the junction rise stays within the -40°C to 150°C operating range with a modest heatsink. Derate linearly above 25°C; at 100°C case, the usable power drops to roughly 12 W.
