What this FRAM does in the assembly
The Cypress FM25V05-G is a 512Kbit Ferroelectric RAM (FRAM) in an 8-SOIC package, using SPI at 40 MHz for serial access. It stores configuration parameters, calibration data, or event logs where non-volatility and fast writes matter, such as industrial controllers, metering, and point-of-sale terminals.
At 40 MHz clock, a 64K x 8 array reads or writes at roughly 5 MB/s sustained. That clears a 512-bit configuration block in under 13 µs — no page-erase wait, no busy-poll. For data-logging applications, the FRAM can capture sensor bursts at microsecond intervals without dropping samples.
Supply range 2V to 3.6V covers both 3.3V and 2.5V rails; at 2V the SPI interface still meets the 40 MHz timing with appropriate drive strength. No external regulator needed when running from a 3.0V coin cell for backup.
8-SOIC (3.90 mm width) — standard footprint, no thermal pad to route. The Tube shipment option suits bench prototyping and low-volume production; for reels the FM25V05-GTR variant is the tape-and-reel version.
For dual-sourcing, the FM25VN10-G doubles the density to 1Mbit in the same 8-SOIC footprint and SPI protocol — parametric match except frame size.
