The FM25C160B-GATR is a 16Kbit non-volatile FRAM (Ferroelectric RAM) organized as 2K x 8 bits, accessed through an SPI bus running up to 15 MHz. Unlike EEPROM, FRAM writes at bus speed with no write-cycle delay — each byte is written in a single SPI transaction, so a 16Kbit page write completes in microseconds rather than milliseconds. The 8-SOIC package (3.90mm body width) is a common footprint shared with serial EEPROMs and flash memories, so a board layout designed for a 24LCxx or 25LCxx EEPROM will accept this FRAM with no PCB change.
The Tape & Reel (TR) packaging suits automated pick-and-place assembly. The footprint is standard — the same 1.27mm pitch SOIC-8 used by countless serial memories — so no special layout accommodations are needed.
