Dual high-side switch for 3.6 A loads
The Infineon BTS5236-2EKA is a dual-channel high-side power switch from the PROFET series, designed to drive resistive, inductive, and lamp loads in automotive and industrial environments. Each of the two N-channel outputs delivers up to 3.6 A continuous, with a typical on-resistance of 40 mOhm at 25°C junction. Fault protection includes fixed current limiting, open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping, reducing the need for external supervisory components.
40 mOhm Rds(on) — sizing the load and thermal budget
The 40 mOhm typical on-resistance at 25°C sets the conduction loss floor. At 3.6 A per channel, the I²R loss is roughly 0.52 W per channel — both channels saturated simultaneously push junction temperature above the 150°C limit unless the PCB copper area and airflow are sized for the combined dissipation. The actual Rds(on) increases with temperature; a 100°C junction roughly doubles the resistance, so the steady-state current per channel should be derated below the 3.6 A maximum in a high-ambient enclosure.
Obsolete — plan the BOM transition now
The BTS5236-2EKA is listed as obsolete by Infineon. Buyers should qualify a replacement — Infineon's newer PROFET+2 or PROFET+24V families offer pin-compatible dual high-side switches with similar Rds(on) and current ratings, though the exact pinout and fault flag behaviour must be verified against the target socket.
