Dual high-side switch for 12 V automotive loads
The Infineon BTS5045-2EKA is a dual-channel high-side power switch in a PG-DSO-14-40-EP package, designed for switching resistive, inductive, and lamp loads in 12 V automotive systems. Each of the two N-channel outputs delivers up to 3 A continuous, with a typical on-resistance of 85 mOhm — low enough to keep conduction losses manageable in a sealed ECU without active cooling.
The load supply range spans 8 V to 18 V, covering the nominal 12 V automotive bus with headroom for load-dump transients. The switch operates without a separate Vcc supply — the gate drive is self-supplied from the load pin, simplifying the BOM by one rail. Integrated fault protection includes current limiting (fixed), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping. Open-load detection is particularly useful for monitoring bulb or solenoid continuity in body-control modules — it flags a broken wire without an external sense resistor. The slew-rate controlled switching reduces EMI radiated from long harness runs, which matters when the switch drives cabling to door locks or exterior lighting.
Package and thermal path
The PG-DSO-14-40-EP package is a 14-lead SOIC with an exposed pad (3.90 mm body width). The footprint is standard for this Infineon PROFET family, so a layout that already carries a BTS50xx part will route directly.
