Dual high-side switch for 12V automotive and industrial loads
The Infineon BTS50202EKAXUMA2 is a dual-channel high-side power switch from the PROFET family, designed to drive resistive, inductive, and capacitive loads in 12V automotive body electronics and industrial control systems. Each N-channel output delivers up to 5A continuous with a typical on-resistance of 40 mOhm, minimising conduction losses in the power path. The switch operates from an 8V to 18V load supply and requires no external Vcc bias — the gate drive is self-supplied from the load rail. Input logic is non-inverting, with a simple On/Off interface that directly accepts microcontroller GPIO levels.
40 mOhm Rds(on) — conduction loss and thermal budget
At 5A load, the 40 mOhm typical Rds(on) produces about 1W of dissipation per channel. The exposed pad package is the primary thermal path — the PCB copper area under the pad sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance.
Built-in fault protection reduces external BOM
The BTS50202 integrates current limiting (fixed threshold), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping. These protections eliminate the need for external sense resistors, comparators, or TVS diodes in many 12V load-switching applications. The Auto Restart feature re-enables the output after a fault condition clears, which is useful for transient overloads like lamp inrush or motor stall.
