The BTS500801TMCATMA1 is a single-channel high-side N-channel power switch from Infineon's PROFET® family, built for switched-load applications where low conduction loss matters. Its 7 mOhm typical Rds(on) at 25°C sets the voltage drop and self-heating floor: at 9.5 A continuous output the drop is under 70 mV, keeping the die temperature rise manageable even in the TO-263-8 D²Pak package.
Load voltage and protection — sizing the rail
The switch handles a load supply from 5.5 V to 38 V, covering 12 V and 24 V nominal rails with margin for transients. Integrated fault protection includes fixed current limiting, open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping — so a single device replaces a discrete MOSFET plus a supervisor circuit. The input is a simple On/Off logic signal (non-inverting, 1:1 ratio), and no external Vcc supply is needed — the switch self-powers from the load rail.
NRND — plan the BOM transition
Infineon lists the BTS500801TMCATMA1 as NRND (Not Recommended for New Design). That means it remains available for existing production BOMs, but new designs should target a current-series PROFET replacement.
Package and mounting — D²Pak thermal reality
The device comes in a TO-263-8 (D²Pak) with 7 leads plus the exposed tab. The tab is the main thermal path — board layout must provide a copper plane and vias to the inner layers to keep the junction below 150°C at full load.
